Cause-Related Marketing Programs
These ventures allow companies to support the efforts of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the premier cancer centers in the world and contribute to their community, while enhancing their recognition in the marketplace.
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company
- Initiated the Jimmy Fund's most successful corporate fundraiser, the Stop & Shop All-Star/Boston Red Sox Triple Winner Program, which has raised more than $10.2 million since its start in 1991
- Started with a commitment to raise $1 million a year. By 2000, the company plans to boost the annual goal to $3 million.
- Supports the Stop & Shop Family Pediatric Brain Tumor Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where a multidisciplinary care team, composed of specialists in oncology, neurology, psychology and other fields, provides treatment and follow-up care for some 500 children per year. The clinic was named in honor of Stop & Shop and its associates, suppliers and customers in 1997.
- Supports the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk providing food for lunch and snacks along the 26.2-mile route as well as a team of walkers.
Dunkin' Donuts
- Raised $375,000 through a May 1998 "Coffee Day," an in-store promotion, and an additional $250,000 through the 1998 and 1999 Dunkin' Donuts/George Mandell Memorial Golf Tournament.
- Maintains an ongoing commitment to "Dunkin' Donuts Discovery Program," which supports young physicians committed to developing new strategies to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
- Committed to finding a cure for adult cancers, Dunkin' Donuts franchisees in Boston, Providence, and Portland and Bangor, Maine, have pledged to raise an additional $2.5 million for the Jimmy Fund over the next 5 years.
Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell
- Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell first teamed up in 1999 to support pediatric cancer research and care with the Taco Bell Jiffy Lube Value Card, a $25 value for a $2 contribution to the Jimmy Fund. In 2005, Jiffy Lube raised $42,000 and Taco Bell raised $160,000.
- Jiffy Lube initiated the Value Card program to benefit the Jimmy Fund in 1997 and has raised more than $1.3 million since that time.
- Select Taco Bell franchises in Massachusetts have raised more than $730,000 for the Jimmy Fund since they came on board in 1999.
Hyundai Motor America
- Contributed $250,000 for the Jimmy Fund in 2000
- Participates in the "Strike Out Cancer" Campaign with the Boston Red Sox
Burger King Restaurants
- Burger King of New England raised $1 million for the Jimmy Fund through its "A Chance for KidsSM" game offered August though September 2005.
- Since the inception of the program in 2000, Burger King restaurants in the Northeast have raised more than $4.5 million to support research and care for pediatric cancers.

Boston Red Sox
Since 2003, the Boston Red Sox have been the presenting sponsor of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. Not only do the Red Sox support the PMC financially, by annually contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the event, but they also support the PMC as members of the team – cyclists, volunteers, and fundraisers who ride or work during event weekend. The Red Sox have hosted special nights for the PMC and a PMC Check Presentation Ceremony at Fenway Park, opening the field up to PMC team members and their families.
CNC Newspapers
Since 2000, Community Newspaper Company (CNC) has been a major contributor to the Jimmy Fund, providing extensive support through in-paper advertising in its chain of newspapers. Programs receiving extensive coverage are Jimmy Fund Golf, the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, and a variety of special events such as the Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl®, the Jimmy Fund/Variety Club Theatre Collections Program, and John Hancock Fantasy Day to Benefit the Jimmy Fund.
Hyundai
Hyundai is the presenting sponsor of the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk. The company has given more than $4 million to the Jimmy Fund since 1997 when it became the proud sponsor of the Strike Out Cancer Campaign with WEEI Sports Radio and the Boston Red Sox. Hyundai continues its support of the Jimmy Fund through that campaign and was one of the first sponsors of the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. Hyundai has also given a brand new vehicle as the grand prize in the annual Burger King A Chance For KidsSM program.
Overstock.com
Overstock.com became a co-presenting sponsor of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge in 2005. Led by Overstock.com President Patrick Byrne, the company's PMC commitment is financial and physical. Byrne is a three-time cancer survivor who rode across the country for the PMC in 2000. In 2005, Byrne commissioned a team of cyclists from Overstock.com to travel from Utah to Massachusetts to ride in the PMC.
